SHAH ALAM: Two opposition assemblymen, Dr Afif Bahardin (PN-Taman Medan) and Mohd Rafiq Mohd Abdullah (PN-Kuang), were suspended from the Selangor State Assembly sitting for three days after they defied instructions from Speaker Lau Weng San.
Lau issued the order after Dr Afif caused a commotion and failed to comply with instructions to sit down, as Housing and Culture Committee chairman Datuk Borhan Aman Shah was about to begin his winding-up speech.
The commotion began when Dr Afif stood up seeking clarification over Lau's decision to reject a motion to refer Wong Siew Kii (PH-Seri Kembangan) to the Selangor State Assembly Rights and Privileges Committee, following a debate alleged to have contradicted the decree of the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, on pig farming in the state.
Lau later explained that Dr Afif had failed to specify the part of the debate deemed to conflict with the issue raised, adding that the motion was non-compliant with the rules and defective, and stressing that his decision was made in accordance with proper procedures.
The Speaker's decision also prompted all opposition assemblymen to walk out of the sitting, while Mohd Rafiq was similarly penalised after being seen disrupting Borhan as he began his winding-up speech. - Bernama
