Thunderstorms and heavy rain expected in Johor and Sarawak


PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning of thunderstorms and heavy rain for several districts in Johor and Sarawak, effective until 11am on Sunday (April 26).

In Johor, the affected areas include the districts of Tangkak, Segamat, Muar and Mersing.

The warning for Sarawak covers a broad range of regions, including Kuching, Serian and Samarahan.

Residents in Betong (Saratok and Kabong), Sarikei (Pakan and Julau) and Sibu (Kanowit) should also prepare for severe weather conditions.

Additionally, the alert extends to Mukah (Matu, Dalat and Mukah) and Kapit (Song).

MetMalaysia issues these warnings when there are signs indicating a thunderstorm with a rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour that is imminent or expected to occur for more than one hour.

A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning that is valid for a period not exceeding six hours for any single release.

The notice was officially issued by the department at 8.15am today.
