Protesters call for outgoing MACC chief's arrest

KUALA LUMPUR: Calls by hundreds of protesters for the arrest of outgoing Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki filled the streets outside the Sogo shopping mall here as the “Tangkap Azam Baki” protest got under way.

Carrying banners and placards demanding Azam’s arrest, protesters poured into the area as the heavy rain earlier in the day began to ease.

Chants of “Tangkap, tangkap, Azam Baki” rang out as the crowd continued to grow.

Among those spotted were former PKR Putrajaya MP candidate Noraishah Mydin Abdul Aziz and DAP Kota Melaka MP Khoo Poay Tiong.

MCA Youth was also present, with its deputy vice-chairman Tan Yang Pang and publicity deputy chairman Chai Jie Yang joining the crowd.

Dozens of police officers, who had arrived earlier, lined nearby streets and the mall entrance to ensure security and manage traffic throughout the rally.

They were also joined by officers from the Kuala Lumpur Police Strike Force.
