KUALA LUMPUR: Sudden sounds of explosions caused brief panic at the "Tangkap Azam Baki" protest outside Sogo shopping mall here after a large amount of fireworks were set off at the back of the crowd.

The fireworks explosions came just as one of the crowd's speakers, a youth representative from a local university, was giving a speech to rally the crowd during their march on the road towards Dataran Merdeka.

Protestors could be seen fleeing in all directions as police officers were seen both rushing towards the source of the fireworks to cordon off the area and directing protestors to safety away from the road.

At least one protester was seen tending to injuries as a result of the fireworks, but fortunately, the protesters reorganised back into an orderly peaceful march after the fireworks stopped.
