MMEA inspects 21 premises, arrests one under Ops Tiris 4.0

KUCHING: The Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) inspected a total of 21 premises and vessels during Ops Tiris 4.0 conducted in Sarawak waters.

Tanjung Manis Maritime Zone director Mahkos Juing said the operation, which began on April 10, focused on detecting diesel and petrol diversion activities that could disrupt domestic supply and affect the country’s economic stability.

"Throughout the six-day operation covering the waters of Tanjung Manis and the Rajang River, one arrest was made involving seized items worth nearly RM35,000, while two other cases were issued warnings by the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry.

"Global geopolitical tensions have put pressure on the energy market, prompting intensified enforcement against the smuggling of subsidised goods to ensure national supply remains adequate and under control,” he said in a statement on Friday (April 24).

Mahkos added that Ops Tiris 4.0 would continue in phases to ensure maritime monitoring and enforcement remain at an optimal level.

He said strategic cooperation between MMEA and the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry would also continue to be strengthened to ensure the operation’s objectives are achieved, while safeguarding the interests of the maritime community and national waters.

Members of the public are urged to channel information on smuggling activities or maritime emergencies via the emergency line 999, or contact the Tanjung Manis Maritime Zone Operations Centre at 011-3572 8765 or the Sarawak State Maritime Operations Centre at 082-432544 for immediate action. – Bernama
