Cops nab woman who allegedly asked hospital patients for payment


JOHOR BARU: Police have arrested a 27-year-old woman volunteering at Hospital Sultanah Aminah (HSA) here for allegedly asking patients for payment.

Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said the woman was arrested at around 7pm on Tuesday (April 21).

"She allegedly asked for RM700 from a 38-year-old foreign labourer seeking medical help at the hospital.

"The woman has no prior criminal record and has been remanded until Saturday (April 25)," he said in a statement on Wednesday (April 22).

He added that police investigating if there are more victims and urged those who have encountered her to lodge a police report.

He said the case is probed under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.

ACP Raub also said police are checking if the case is related to an incident highlighted on social media where woman asked for RM30 as a deposit to be warded at HSA.

HSA later issued a statement saying the woman was not a hospital staff member.
