146 individuals, including single mother, detained in Terengganu anti-drug operation

CHUKAI: The National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) has detained 146 individuals, including four women, in a five-day operation carried out in Terengganu from Saturday (April 18) until Wednesday (April 22).

Terengganu AADK director Arzmi Abdullah said the arrests were made in three districts, namely Kemaman, Setiu and Marang, involving individuals aged between 18 and 61 who were detained under Section 3(1) of the Drug Dependants (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983 after testing positive for drugs.

"The arrests involved 142 men and four women,” he told a press conference after the operation in Seri Bandi near here.

Of the total, 132 individuals tested positive for methamphetamine, seven for heroin and another seven for ketum.

"Among those detained were civil servants, labourers, restaurant workers and a single mother,” Arzmi said.

He added that six officers and 69 personnel were involved in the implementation of the operation, which is aimed at curbing drug and prohibited substance abuse in identified areas, as well as to clear locations that have become drug dens. – Bernama
