New primary school to open in Kulai this year

KULAI: A new primary school will soon open here, says Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh.

He said the school, SK Bandar Putra 2, was expected to open this year.

"Construction of the school, which cost about RM35.6mil, began in August 2021 and was completed at the end of last year.

"We are in the final stages of preparations before the school opens.

"For the first year, the school will only take in pupils in Primary 2, 3 and 5," he said, adding that the Ministry would announce the opening date soon.

He said this after visiting SK Bandar Putra 2 on Tuesday (April 21).

Wong added that the school would take in pupils from SK Bandar Putra and SK Putra Utama.

"However, we will first hold engagement sessions with parents from these two schools to hear their views.

"They will be able to choose whether to send their children to the new school or keep them at their current schools," he said.

The number of pupils at SK Bandar Putra is expected to be reduced from 2,165 to 1,042, while SK Putera Utama will see a drop from 1,302 to 1,177, subject to parents’ decisions.
