Promises of more jobs, better education, flood mitigation services

JOHOR BARU: Creating more job opportunities for youths, addressing flash floods and improving constituency services are among the priorities of first-time candidate Tai Chee Chee if she is elected as the Senai assemblyman.

The 32-year-old Barisan Nasional candidate said her campaign focused on three key areas, which she believes are crucial to transforming Senai into a more vibrant area.

“Senai’s strategic location, strong transport links and industrial base gave it potential for further growth, but more needs to be done to create opportunities for youths to remain and develop their careers locally.

“I propose setting up an employment information platform for Senai folk and organise annual job fairs to help local youths secure jobs closer to home.”

On flood mitigation, Tai said she plans to map out flood risk areas in Senai by analysing historical records and flood data, which would then allow for targeted solutions.

“This includes addressing issues involving drainage systems, river blockages and development planning.

“Senai should not continue to be in a situation where we only respond when floods happen. We need to identify the root causes and implement long-term solutions.”

She also pledged to improve the efficiency and transparency of constituency services by introducing a response mechanism, where complaints would receive an initial response within 24 hours, updates within seven days and a public report on complaint handling every 180 days.

Tai, who helps her husband with his business, is also pursuing her Master of Business Administration at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.

Pakatan Harapan candidate Dr Maszlee Malik, who is contesting in Puteri Wangsa, has pledged to address concerns such as traffic congestion, poor road conditions, childcare facilities and education.

He said that most residents are discussing issues objectively and stayed away from emotional politics.

“They want to talk about governance, development, welfare and education,” he said when met during his campaign walkabout at Felda Tebrau here yesterday.

Maszlee said one of the biggest local issues was traffic congestion on major roads and within housing estates.

He added that road conditions in several areas also required immediate attention after personally inspecting them.

He proposed the expansion of community childcare centres and workplace childcare facilities for working parents.

“This is among the issues that deserve attention because it can ease the burden on working mothers and fathers.”

Education, he added, remained close to his heart, particularly efforts to reduce school dropout rates among children in several low-cost housing areas within the constituency.

“There are certain communities where this is still an issue. These are among the matters I want to focus on if given the mandate.”
