Printing firm director remanded over alleged RM100,000 false claims

MELAKA: A printing company director has been detained over an allegedly fraudulent RM100,000 claim for the design, printing and supply of a coffee-table book featuring a former top official from the state.

The man, in his 60s, was remanded for five days until Saturday (Aug 22) after the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) applied for an order at the Ayer Keroh Magistrate’s Court here on Tuesday (Aug 18).

Magistrate Sharda Shienha Mohd Suleiman granted the remand application.

A source said the suspect was arrested at about 8pm on Monday (Aug 17) when he went to the Melaka MACC office in Alai here to give his statement.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect allegedly submitted payment documents containing false particulars in connection with the contract in 2021.

“The supply of the coffee-table books under the contract is also believed to have been incomplete,” the source said.

Melaka MACC director Datuk Adi Supian Shafie confirmed the arrest when contacted.

He said the case was being investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.
