JOHOR BARU: About 640 Border Control and Protection Agency officers and personnel will be stationed at the Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link’s Bukit Chagar integrated immigration, customs and quarantine (ICQ) complex.
Border Control director-general Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said about 400 trainees are currently undergoing training at the Police Training Centre in Segamat and are expected to report to the complex in October.
“They will then undergo a familiarisation programme from October to December to prepare them for operations at the new facility.
“The training and exposure is how we are going to get ourselves ready for duty,” he said after accompanying Transport Minister Anthony Loke for an inspection of the RTS Link construction on Tuesday (Aug 18).
Comm Mohd Shuhaily said the three-month period would also allow personnel from six agencies under Border Control to familiarise themselves with the building, passenger flow and systems while carrying out simulations.
He said this is important as the RTS Link was expected to handle up to 10,000 travellers per hour.
He added that the agency has been approved for 640 positions at the ICQ complex, with the remaining positions to be filled progressively.
On contingency measures in the event of a disruption to the digital systems at the complex, Comm Mohd Shuhaily said manual procedures would remain available.
During the visit, Loke also officiated a soft launch of the Border Control office at the Bukit Chagar ICQ complex.
