HONG Kong actor-singer Andy Lau wants his daughter to put off dating until she turns 18, calling himself “old-fashioned”, reported China Press.
The 64-year-old is a doting dad to daughter Hanna, who will be turning 14 next month.
During a charity event in Hong Kong on April 18, he was asked if the teenager had started dating.
“Of course not,” he retorted, adding that he hoped she would consider having a boyfriend only after she turns 18.
Lau jokingly called himself “old-fashioned”, but admitted that he cannot completely control his daughter’s life.
Asked if he was considering sending Hanna abroad for her studies, Lau said he hoped to spend more time with her.
He said Hanna will continue her secondary school education in Hong Kong, adding that he will only consider sending her abroad to get her degree.
Lau has been one of Hong Kong’s most successful actors since the mid-1980s and was dubbed one of the Four Heavenly Kings of Cantopop in the 1990s, even holding the Guinness World Record for “Most Awards Won by a Cantopop Male Artiste”.
Lau married Malaysian model Carol Chu in a secret ceremony in Las Vegas on June 23, 2008.
> A woman in Guangdong, China, narrowly escaped death thanks to quick reflexes that saved her from being crushed by a falling air-conditioning compressor unit, reported Sin Chew Daily.
The incident, reported by the local media, happened on April 14 outside a row of shops at Jiali Plaza in Dongguan city.
A CCTV recording showed four people seated at a table playing cards, while a woman stood nearby watching.
At one point, they appeared to be distracted by a noise from above and were seen looking upward.
The woman reacted quickly and stepped back just as the compressor unit crashed onto the spot where she had been standing seconds earlier.
Fortunately, no one was hurt due in the incident.
On April 15, the building’s management confirmed that the compressor unit fell as it was not properly secured.
Workers responsible for the installation were told to stop work pending an investigation.
