KLANG: A 37-year-old man was slapped with a murder charge at the Magistrate’s Court here over the death of a nine-month-old child.

Mohd Syahril Nazrul Ruslim is accused of murdering Muhammad Arsya at about 3.30pm on April 6 at the Taman Bayu Perdana Apartment here.

The factory supervisor is charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code and faces the death penalty or 30 to 40 years’ imprisonment with a minimum 12 strokes of the rotan, if found guilty.

The charge was read out before magistrate A. Karthiyayini and no plea was recorded as murder cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

The accused was unrepresented.

The court fixed July 6 for the case to be mentioned as well as for the submission of forensic reports.

It was previously reported that the unconscious baby was rushed to Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah emergency unit by his stepfather on the day of the incident.

Attempts to resuscitate him failed and the infant was declared dead.

A post-mortem was carried out the following day and initial findings indicated there were injuries on the baby’s head, left cheek, palms, left arm as well as both feet.
