Teenage motorist dies after collision with lorry near Kota Tinggi


KOTA TINGGI: A 17-year-old was killed after his car hit the wheel of a lorry at KM42 of the Kota Tinggi-Kluang road here.

Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Yusof Othman said the accident occurred at 6.14pm on Thursday (April 16).

"The driver lost control of his car and skidded into the oncoming lane, hitting a front wheel of the lorry coming from the opposite direction," he said in a statement on Friday (April 17).

"He suffered severe injuries to the head, arms, legs and body and was rushed to Hospital Kota Tinggi’s emergency unit.

"He was pronounced dead later that same day while undergoing treatment."

Supt Yusof added that the 30-year-old lorry driver was sent to the same hospital for treatment.

"The body of the deceased was sent to the hospital’s forensic unit for a post-mortem," he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

He also urged witnesses to come forward to assist in the investigation and reminded the public to comply with all traffic laws and regulations to ensure safety.
