Man to face six charges for injuring cop with machete


MELAKA: A 31-year-old man will be facing charges for injuring a policeman with a machete in Tanjung Kling here.

Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit said the incident took place during an operation last Thursday.

He said the raid turned tense when the suspect suddenly threa­tened the officer from the Narcotics Crime Investigation Depart­ment and attacked him with a machete.

“The suspect fled after the attack but was apprehended shortly afterwards,” he said yesterday.

ACP Christopher said the cop, a lance corporal, sustaining injuries, including swelling on his left thumb.

He said the suspect will face six charges under Sections 324, 506 and 186 of the Penal Code for ­voluntarily causing hurt, criminal intimidation and obstructing a public servant in the discharge of his duties respectively.

ACP Christopher said the suspect will also face a more serious charge under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempt to murder, and Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Wea­pons Act 1958 for possession of a dangerous wea­pon in a public place.

The suspect will also be charged under Section 12(3) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for possession of drugs, he added.
