MELAKA: Unfazed by tensions in the Middle East, tourism players in the historic city are pressing ahead with confidence, expecting stronger sales at the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) Fair 2026.
MATTA Melaka chapter chairman Goh Hock Gin said the three-day fair at Mahkota Parade from April 17 to 19 is expected to draw nearly 20,000 visitors.
"More than 50 exhibitors will be taking part, offering about 150 affordable holiday packages for both domestic and international travel," he said in an interview here on Tuesday (April 14).
Goh said the event, regarded as Melaka’s largest premium travel fair, will promote 14 tourism subsectors, including heritage, culture, recreation, sports, shopping, conventions, healthcare, education, agro-tourism, food tourism, eco-tourism and religious tourism.
He said the ongoing Middle East conflict has not significantly dampened local travel sentiment.
“Travellers are still making plans, particularly within the region, and we expect a good response throughout the three days,” he said.
Goh also said visitors who spend RM100 and above will be eligible for a lucky draw offering prizes worth RM10,000, including a 65-inch smart television, flight tickets to Krabi and Medan as well as hotel stays.
He noted that the fair will also feature stage performances, tourism quizzes and appearances by Tourism Malaysia mascots in conjunction with the Visit Malaysia Year 2026.
Goh added that MATTA is targeting total sales of between RM10mil and RM12mil, expressing confidence that the fair will generate strong interest and transactions.
