MELAKA: Holidaymakers from the historic city spent close to RM8mil on travel packages during the recent MATTA Fair Melaka 2026, underscoring continued resilience in the tourism sector.
Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) Melaka chapter chairman Goh Hock Kin said the encouraging sales were recorded during the three-day fair held at a shopping centre here from April 17 to April 19.
“We are pleased with the outcome despite concerns from some quarters that sales might be affected by the ongoing Middle East crisis.
"Although we did not meet our initial RM10mil target, we are satisfied with the overall performance,” he said at the prize presentation ceremony held in conjunction with the fair at a leading hotel here on Tuesday (May 5).
Also present was Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry's Melaka director Mohamad Bukhari Che Man.
Goh said the fair attracted about 18,000 visitors and featured more than 150 travel packages offered at special prices.
He added that the strong turnout reflected sustained interest in travel, particularly among local holidaymakers.
Goh said MATTA would continue to step up efforts to promote both domestic and international tourism, while working closely with industry players to sustain momentum in the sector.
