KUALA LUMPUR: There are only 36 projects under the Works Ministry that are categorised as problematic with the majority being carried out nationwide according to plan, says its minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.
He said this performance shows that most JKR projects can be implemented as planned, including some that were completed ahead of schedule.
“We currently have 871 projects under construction nationwide, with only 36 of them categorised as problematic projects.
“This number represents 4.1% of the total projects currently under construction. By November, the ministry aims to reduce this to 3%,” he said.
Nanta said this after handing over the Letter of Acceptance (LOA) for the RM366mil Perak Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK) and housing construction project, a strategic initiative under the Home Ministry on Friday (Aug 21).
The 42-month project, awarded to Serada Realty Sdn Bhd, is expected to be completed by February 2030 and will be built on a 25-hectare site next to the Sultan Azlan Shah roundabout in Bandar Meru, Ipoh.
Nanta said the new IPK complex was a high-priority project to meet the security needs of the country, particularly for Perak residents, as the existing 58-year-old complex was now in a dilapidated condition and no longer economical to fully renovate.
"The implementation of this project is important to ensure the provision of more conducive and resilient facilities to meet the needs of current and future security operations," he said.
Also present were Works Department director-general Datuk Ibrahim Esa and Home Ministry principal assistant secretary (development) Jafrizul Jamhari.
Nanta said the new Perak IPK would house all IPK offices in one area to increase the effectiveness of assignments and facilitate service delivery to the public.
"In addition, the level of staff readiness in terms of response time will also be improved with the provision of sufficient quarters in the IPK complex.
"By increasing the command control of the Perak IPK construction, the crime index will be reduced by 5% each year, improving the police response time from 15 minutes to 10 minutes," he said.
He added that the number of officers and personnel occupying quarters would increase from 0% to 6.7% (84 units of quarters) of the total staff of 1,261 personnel.
Throughout 2025, the JKR issued 17 LOAs worth RM292.8mil for the implementation of projects under the Home Ministry.
Nanta said the ministry and JKR continued to be committed to implementing the development of the country's public infrastructure, in line with the transformation agenda and development agenda of the Madani government.
Meanwhile Ibrahim said JKR is currently handling and monitoring 31 projects under PDRM throughout Peninsular Malaysia, with a financial implication of RM5.9bil.
Of these, he said three projects are concentrated in Perak with an allocation of RM667mil, one of which is the construction of the Perak IPKHeadquarters and housing.
