JOHOR BARU: A newborn baby boy wrapped in a towel has been found alive at a surau in Taman Daya here.

Johor Bahru South OCPD chief ACP Raub Selamat said police received a report from a witness regarding the discovery at 2.40pm on Sunday (June 7).

He said a 58-year-old local man said he discovered the baby around noon inside the surau.

"He immediately contacted the Setia Indah police station and Sultan Ismail Hospital (HSI) for further action.

"The suspect in this case is a local man in his 20s who placed the baby near the surau's donation box," he said in a statement on Monday (June 8).

Raub said the baby was examined by medical officers and found to be in good health, without any injuries.
