School under probe for allegedly withholding SPM result for not paying PTA fees

SEREMBAN: The Education Department is probing a school here for allegedly withholding a student’s Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia result for not paying a Parent Teacher Association fee.

The department in a statement said the PTA fee was voluntary and cannot be made a reason to not release a student's result.

"The department is aware of a clip which has gone viral on Tik Tok claiming the student's results were not released.

"We view this seriously and have taken action to get the necessary information," it said, adding that the public should refrain from speculating on the case as investigations were ongoing.

The department said it will continue to provide reminders to all school administrators to always comply with guidelines and regulations to ensure the interests of students remain a priority in line with the aspirations of a fair, inclusive and well-being-focused education system.

Earlier, a TikTok user shared a clip claiming that a student who had excelled in the SPM exam at the school only received an empty envelope without the official certificate during a ceremony.

The student's RM250 award money was also temporarily withheld by the school due to arrears in PTA fees.
