Suspect in hit-and-run involving traffic policeman remanded for four days


KUALA LUMPUR: The driver of a car believed to be involved in a hit-and-run incident that left a traffic policeman injured along Jalan Sultan Yahya Petra here has been remanded for four days to assist in investigations.

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) chief Asst Comm Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the remand order for the 40-year-old suspect was issued by Magistrate Nur Liana Sulaiman at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters on Tuesday (April 14).

“The suspect has been remanded and the investigation paper will be completed before being referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for further action,” he said when contacted.

Earlier, police revealed that the suspect is a senior police officer holding the rank of Inspector who is believed to be suffering from schizophrenia.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Fadil Marsus also confirmed that the man is currently on special medical leave and is in the process of being retired based on the recommendation of a medical board.

Comm Fadil said the suspect was arrested after a police chase from Jalan Cheras to Jalan Empat, Chan Sow Lin, on Monday (April 13).

In the incident at 10.47pm on April 10, the victim, Konst Roslan Salleh, 27, was carrying out traffic control duties at a yellow box junction when he was hit from behind by a vehicle.

The driver fled the scene without stopping to render assistance.

ACP Mohd Zamzuri said the victim sustained injuries, including wounds on his right palm and the back of his head, as well as pain in his ribs.

He was later taken to Hospital Kuala Lumpur for further treatment.
