Foreigner nabbed for alleged sexual harassment on train of Kelana Jaya LRT

PETALING JAYA: A man has been arrested by the Prasarana auxiliary police for allegedly sexually harassing a woman on a train here.

Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd said the suspect, a 19-year-old foreigner, was arrested following a witness report lodged on Wednesday (April 8).

"The arrest followed a witness report alleging that the man had harassed a woman on a train along the Kelana Jaya Line.

"Early investigations showed that the suspect is also believed to be involved in another sexual harassment incident at Kuchai station on the Putrajaya Line," it said in a statement on Saturday (April 11).

It added that the suspect has been taken to the Sri Petaling police station for further action.

"The swift action by the Prasarana auxiliary police in tracking down and detaining the suspect in less than 24 hours reflects their preparedness and efficiency in ensuring passenger safety," it said, adding that it would give its fullest cooperation to the police to assist in the investigation.

Rapid Rail also urged commuters to immediately report to station officers or auxiliary police personnel on duty if they witness or become victims of any form of harassment so that prompt action can be taken.

Meanwhile, Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Hoo Chan Hook confirmed the arrest of the suspect for molesting a woman at the Kuchai Lama MRT station.

He said the incident occurred on April 9 when the complainant was suddenly approached by the suspect.

The 22-year-old victim was then hugged without consent during the incident, leading to her filing a police report on the matter.

Investigations showed that the suspect had followed her as she was going to the toilet.

"He was arrested on the same day and has been remanded until April 24. The suspect is a Chinese national and is unemployed," he said in a statement today.
