Single mum claims trial to uploading offensive social media content


JOHOR BARU: A single mother has been charged in the Sessions Court here with two counts of transmitting offensive communications through social media.

Nurul Huda Mohd Bajuri, 49, pleaded not guilty to both charges after they were read before judge Mohd Azhar Othman here on Tuesday (April 7).

According to the first charge, the accused allegedly used the TikTok account "Ratu Putri Ratu Balqis" to knowingly create and transmit offensive communications.

She was accused of claiming to be a teacher to the Sultan of Johor and other rulers in the country, with the intention of annoying others.

On the second charge, she is alleged to have used an Instagram account bearing the same username to transmit offensive communications.

The charge sheet states that she made inappropriate remarks about the Sultans in Malaysia and Brunei, intending to cause annoyance.

Both offences were allegedly committed at an apartment in Sri Larkin here at about 4pm on March 27.

The charges were framed under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

Judge Azhar then allowed bail at RM8,000 with one surety for both charges.

The accused was also ordered to surrender her international passport, report to the nearest police station once a month, and refrain from contacting prosecution witnesses.

The judge warned the accused that she would be placed under remand if she failed to meet any of the above conditions.

He also set May 8 for case mention for submission of documents and appointment of counsel.
