Court stay should not delay review of Sabah’s 40% revenue, says Ronald Kiandee

KOTA KINABALU: Beluran Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee stated that a court-ordered stay on Sabah’s 40% revenue entitlement should not delay the review of the amount owed.

The Court of Appeal granted the stay on April 6.

This halts the implementation of a Kota Kinabalu High Court order pending a federal government appeal regarding the 40% revenue return to the state.

Dr Kiandee on Tuesday (April 7) noted that while the state acknowledges the significant fiscal impact on federal finances, the calculation process must proceed.

He stated that the duty to review constitutional rights is separate from the immediate implementation of payments.

The MP called for the federal and state governments to maintain transparency throughout the process.

He requested that authorities disclose agreed-upon review mechanisms and timelines to the public.

“This issue cannot be dealt with behind closed doors or delayed,” he said.

Dr Kiandee emphasised that the review process is required by the Federal Constitution.
