Motorcyclist dies after being run over by car in George Town

GEORGE TOWN: A 26-year-old local man has died after he sustained severe head injuries in an accident along Jalan Ahmad Nor.

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Rozak Muhammad in a statement on Sunday (April 5) said the motorcyclist died on Saturday (April 4) at 2.10pm at the Penang Hospital emergency department where he was receiving treatment for severe injuries sustained during the accident.

"On Saturday afternoon at around 1.50pm we received a call regarding the accident involving a car and a motorcycle along Jalan Ahmad Nor. Initial investigations found that during the incident the car was travelling straight from the direction of the traffic light at the junction towards Jalan Jelutong," he said.

ACP Rozak said when the car reached Jalan Ahmad Nor a motorcyclist skidded and overturned in front of the left side of the car. Due to the close proximity of the car to the motorcyclist, the driver, a 25-year-old local woman, did not manage to avoid the man and ran over him.

The motorcyclist who is from Paya Terubong was sent to the Penang Hospital for treatment but succumbed to his injuries.

"The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving," ACP Rozak said.
