Joker Xue fans get full concert and travel refunds

CHINESE pop sensation Joker Xue is providing full refunds and travel compensation to fans after his RMB300mil (RM170mil) stage production in Guangzhou was derailed by extreme weather, Oriental Daily reported.

During his King of the Beasts tour on the March 29 in Guangzhou, China, torrential rain triggered a series of failures in the sound, lighting and control systems.

Roughly an hour into the show, the Chinese singer noticed the technical quality decline and refused to continue with a subpar performance, telling the crowd: “If the quality isn’t right, it isn’t right.”

Out-of-town fans are eligible to have their flights and accommodation reimbursed, while local attendees can exchange their ticket for future shows.

> A mother was devastated after discovering that a 40-year-old family friend, whom she trusted as a fatherly figure to her daughter, had sexually abused the child for years in Singapore.

Oriental Daily reported that the man, now 50, pleaded guilty in the High Court to a charge of sexual assault.

The court heard that the abuse began in 2015, shortly after the victim’s mother introduced the man to her daughter, who was then nine.

To the mother, the man appeared to treat her daughter “as his own” and often took her out for meals or swimming.

The abuse only came to light years later when the victim, then 16, disclosed the trauma during a counselling session.

> Two tourists in Krabi, Thailand, were left traumatised after waking up to find a 1.5m-long cobra slithering across their necks in their hotel room, Sin Chew Daily reported.

One of the travellers was jolted awake and began screaming while the companion, still semi-conscious, initially dismissed the alert as a nightmare.

The reality set in moments later when they heard the distinctive hiss of a black cobra on the bed.

Miraculously, both guests escaped without being bitten.
