Saravanan calls for tougher enforcement on road safety, not just laws


PETALING JAYA: Stronger enforcement must go hand in hand with legal penalties to curb reckless driving and improve road safety, says MIC deputy president Datuk Seri M Saravanan.

In a statement on Monday (March 30), he said measures such as high-speed cameras, frequent roadside checks and a visible police presence are crucial in reinforcing safe driving behaviour.

“We must reinforce the message that risky driving carries immediate consequences.

“Legal deterrents alone are not enough. They must be supported by consistent enforcement to ensure no more innocent lives are lost.

“Our roads must not become places of fear, and no Malaysian should have to travel in fear,” he said.

Saravanan added that those who drive recklessly and cause death while intoxicated must face the harshest possible penalties to reflect the gravity of the offence.

“Justice must be swift for the victims and their families,” he said.

He also extended his condolences to the victim’s family, saying he was deeply saddened by the incident on Sunday in Klang.

A motorcyclist was killed when he was hit by an alleged drunk driver on Jalan Raya Barat, Klang.
