Public universities allowed to decide on online classes to escape hot weather, says Zambry

KUALA NERUS: Public higher learning institutions are allowed to decide individually on measures to tackle the continuous hot weather, including conducting online teaching and learning.

Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir said that the ministry will make it flexible for each university to decide how to conduct classes in response to the hot weather, though it has not received any official complaints from any university.

"This is because the situation in each campus is different. So university administration can take their own steps to conduct online learning.

"For instance, during the Covid-19 pandemic and also during the flooding season, universities made the decision to allow students to take their courses online… but it only involved curriculum that didn't require physical attendance," he told reporters after attending a gathering with university students at Dewan Perdana, Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA) here on Monday (March 30).

MetMalaysia has previously reported that the current hot weather spell is expected to continue till the start of the Southwest Monsoon season in June due to drier atmospheric conditions and low rainfall. - Bernama
