Strong quake hits Banda Sea, no tsunami threat to Malaysia


KUALA LUMPUR: There is no tsunami threat to Malaysia following a strong earthquake that struck Banda Sea, Indonesia, early Sunday (March 29) morning.

Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) director-general Dr Mohd Hisham Mohd Anip said the 6.0 magnitude earthquake occurred at 2.38am.

He said the epicentre was located at coordinates 7.9° south and 127.8° east at a depth of 173km.

"The area is 467km from Ambon, Indonesia," he said in a statement on Sunday. – Bernama
