Diesel price unchanged in Sabah, Sarawak, purchase limits apply

PETALING JAYA: Sabah and Sarawak will continue to enjoy subsidised diesel at RM2.15 per litre but the amount for each purchase will be capped, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Prime Minister said light public land transport, goods and privately owned vehicles have a limit of 50 litres per purchase.

"Public land transport vehicles and goods not exceeding three tonnes have a maximum limit of 100 litres per purchase.

"For vehicles exceeding three tonnes, they have a maximum of 150 litres per purchase," he said during a special address broadcast live on Thursday (March 26).

He said this is to ensure that diesel supply is adequate and to ensure fair distribution for all parties.

"This means that when this price difference swells, we must be vigilant and take more stringent control measures, more effective enforcement.

"Considering the geographical and logistical conditions of Sabah and Sarawak, we have made a decision that I think is reasonable. But leakages must be curbed and controlled.

"Without this adjustment, we are concerned that there is a tendency to hoard and smuggle as has been detected so far," said Anwar.
