Tawau college security guard narrowly evades attack by 5.5m python

KOTA KINABALU: A security guard had a terrifying encounter when he narrowly avoided being attacked by a 5.5m python while on patrol at Tawau Community College.

The guard managed to dodge the reptile slithering towards him from the rear at about 7.25pm on Monday (March 23).

After gaining a safe distance, he made a distress call that prompted a team from the Civil Defence Force to rush to the location.

A spokesman for the Civil Defence Force said the team found the snake in the automotive storage area and believed it had eaten two cats in the vicinity.

He said the team found it challenging as the python acted aggressively, even bending the snare tool due to its strength.

However, he said the python was successfully subdued and captured without any reported injuries.

"The python's presence posed a safety risk to the public, especially around the college," the spokesperson said.

The python was handed over to the wildlife authorities.
