Two claim trial to cheating woman of RM23,000 in Kuantan


KUANTAN: Two sales promoters have pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate's Court here to a charge of cheating a woman of RM23,000.

The accused, Muhammad Khairul Nizam Rahmat, 32, and Nadyah Rozlan, 25, entered their pleas before Magistrate Mohd Fauzan Mohd Suhairi after the charge was read out to them on Thursday (March 19).

According to the charge, they, together with two others still at large, deceived a 58-year-old woman by offering a fake investment scheme involving electrical goods.

The victim handed over RM23,000 at a pawnshop in Jalan Bukit Ubi here at about 5.10pm on Jan 13.

They were charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same Code, which provides for imprisonment of not less than one year and up to 10 years, whipping and a fine, upon conviction.

The court allowed bail of RM5,000 each with one surety and set April 4 for mention. – Bernama
