GEORGE TOWN: Registrations are now open for the annual Aspen-Klippa Penang Bridge International Marathon (PIBM) 2026.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said those interested can now register for the marathon which will be held on Dec 13, 2026.
"What began as a local marathon has gradually developed into an international race that attracts runners from across Malaysia as well as from many other countries.
"It (PBIM) promotes healthy living, encourages an active lifestyle and brings communities together.
"The event strengthens Penang's reputation as a destination capable of hosting major international sporting events as well.
"Over the past three years, PBIM has entered a new chapter with the relocation of the race to Batu Kawan.

"This move has improved the organisation of the event and provided a suitable location for a marathon of this scale," he said during a press conference to launch the marathon at his office in Komtar on Tuesday (March 17).
Chow said the past two editions of the marathon held in Batu Kawan have shown strong potential for the area to host large-scale sporting and community events.
Chow said PBIM aligns well with the spirit of Visit Malaysia 2026, where Malaysia is welcoming international visitors to experience the country's culture, food and attractions. "Events like PBIM encourage runners and their families to spend more time exploring Penang.
"This year, we are targeting between 23,000 and 25,000 runners as we reached 23,000 participants during PBIM 2025.
"This scale allows the organisers to maintain a well-managed race while continuing to deliver a quality experience," he said.
The marathon hosted at the Aspen Vision City in Batu Kawan will feature multiple categories for the full marathon (42km), half marathon (21km) and the usual 10km run.
