JOHOR BARU: The night zoo concept at the Johor Zoo has potential to strengthen urban tourism and boost the city’s economy, says Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor.

The state housing and local government committee chairman said the initiative is expected to attract domestic and international tourists while offering a fresh experience for visitors.

“Recently, I conducted a working visit to the zoo to personally inspect the progress of the upgrades.

“The visit is crucial to make sure every phase of the project runs smoothly and delivers a better experience for visitors,” he said yesterday.

Mohd Jafni said the state government remains committed to enhancing the zoo as a source of pride for the people of Johor and as a key recreational and educational attraction.

“The phased upgrade is in line with the state’s broader aspirations to develop Johor into a modern, competitive state with high-quality public facilities.

“The night zoo concept will add value to tourism offerings and create a new dimension for visitors,” he said.

Mohd Jafni added that all upgrading works must be carried out carefully, taking into account visitor safety, animal welfare and overall comfort.

He said the welfare of the animals at the zoo remains a top priority throughout the upgrading process.

“These efforts are important to ensure the Johor Zoo continues to grow as a recreational, educational and conservation institution for future generations.

“Under the leadership of the Mentri Besar, the state government is committed to supporting initiatives that make the zoo a top-tier public facility,” he said.
