Johor MB’s Hari Raya open house to proceed as annual tradition

JOHOR BARU: This year’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house hosted by Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi will go on as scheduled.

He said the open house, which is usually held at his residence in Saujana here on the first day of Hari Raya, is an annual affair.

“Other state government-organised Hari Raya open house events will be held on a more modest scale.

“But for the Johor Mentri Besar’s open house, it is an annual event,” he said after chairing the Johor Umno meeting here on Saturday (March 14).

He was responding to a media question on whether the state would host a Hari Raya open house following Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s directive for all government agencies, government-linked companies and government-linked investment companies to hold off festive open houses this year.

Anwar said this was due to the economic effects of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, adding that the number of trips abroad should also be reduced.

Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh reportedly said the state government would proceed with its Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house on March 28 as planned, as it is meant to celebrate the festive occasion with the people.

Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow also said the state’s official Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house, to be jointly hosted with Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Ramli Ngah Talib, would proceed on a modest scale.
