KUALA LUMPUR: Parts of Europe, Asia and Asean countries will be among the areas the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry is focusing on to ensure Visit Malaysia 2026 proceeds smoothly, says Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing.

He said the move is part of the ministry’s restrategising efforts in light of recent developments in the Middle East.

“We will discuss this further internally, especially with Tourism Malaysia.

“There may be a further concentration on parts of Europe, Asia and Asean,” he told reporters while attending an Iftar event at a hotel here last night.

Speaking further, Tiong said Malaysia has various beautiful destinations to offer.

“We want to attract more international tourists and for the world to know that Malaysia is a multiracial and multireligious country.

“We want them to see our unity, harmony and feel our hospitality,” he added.

Also at the event, Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail affirmed that Malaysia remains a stable and secure destination for visitors.

“The police, together with other security agencies, maintain vigilant and continuous monitoring of border areas and tourism hotspots to safeguard the well-being of all who come to our shores.

“Beyond routine monitoring, Malaysia has strengthened its security framework through advanced surveillance technology, enhanced intelligence sharing and close international cooperation,” he said in a speech read by Senior Asst Comm Shaidatul Akmar Mohd Noor from Bukit Aman Special Branch.

Mohd Khalid added that these measures are complemented by international partnerships, enabling Malaysia to anticipate and respond effectively to emergent threats.

“Such proactive efforts ensure that our nation’s reputation as a safe, welcoming and world-class tourism destination remains intact, giving travellers the confidence to experience the beauty, culture and hospitality that Malaysia is proud to offer,” he said.

He also emphasised that national security is a shared responsibility that binds the country together.

“The government, tourism industry and communities each play a vital role in safeguarding Malaysia’s peace and prosperity.

“Through vigilance, cooperation and unity of purpose, we can ensure that Malaysia continues to shine as a peaceful, safe and respected destination on the international stage,” he added.
