SINGAPORE, April 10 (Bernama): Malaysia welcomed 3.4 million Singaporean visitors in the first two months of 2026, accounting for nearly half of total international tourist arrivals, as it ramps up efforts under the Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VMY2026) campaign.

Malaysian High Commissioner to Singapore Datuk Dr Azfar Mohamad Mustafar said Singapore remained one of the top sources of visitor arrivals, making a significant contribution to Malaysia’s tourism industry.

"The VMY2026 campaign stands as a testament to our steadfast commitment to welcoming the world and showcasing the unparalleled diversity that define Malaysia as a premier global destination.

"We are particularly encouraged by initiatives aimed at inspiring Singaporeans to visit Malaysia multiple times a year, transforming one-day excursionists into overnight tourists and increasing their average length of stay," he said at the opening of the 38th Travel Malaysia Fair 2026 on Friday.

According to Azfar, Malaysia stands out as an attractive holiday destination for Singaporean travellers amid ongoing global fuel surcharge volatility.

"Travel Malaysia Fair aims to bring together the best of what Malaysia has to offer, from luxury resorts to adventurous eco-tours, from mouth-watering street food to vibrant culture experiences and from heritage attractions to world-class shopping.

"Malaysia’s multiracial society also offers visitors a unique blend of traditions, festivals and cuisines, creating memorable experiences that keep travellers returning time and again,” he added.

The travel fair, held from April 10 to 12 at the Singapore Expo, also saw Tourism Malaysia launch the Craft Trail Packages, a curated cultural tourism programme developed in collaboration with the Malaysian Handicraft Development Corporation (Kraftangan Malaysia).

The fair offers a wide range of curated experiences tailored for the upcoming June school holidays in Singapore, making it an ideal platform for travellers to plan their mid-year getaways.
