Two foreign women arrested over modified cars carrying petrol near Kedah border

PADANG TERAP: Two foreign women were arrested and their cars seized near the border in Durian Burung, Padang Terap, yesterday (April 17) after enforcement officers from the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry discovered additional petrol tanks in their vehicles.

The Kedah ministry chief enforcement officer, Kedah Zalina Aziz, said the suspects, in their 30s and 40s, were arrested by the General Operations Force (GOF) at 2pm at a roadblock in front of Kota Putra police station, Durian Burung and have been handed to the ministry for further action.

"Inspections revealed both cars, locally registered, were carrying controlled items in a manner that created reasonable suspicion that an offence was being committed," she said in a statement on Tuesday (April 28).

About 200 litres of petrol worth RM774 and two Proton Wira with additional tanks installed were seized for a total value of RM15,574

Both suspects are being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961, she added. – Bernama
