A person dressed as the God of Wealth in Singapore was criticised online for making seemingly lewd gestures at a lion during a lion dance performance recently, China Press reported.

A video of the incident shared online showed the performer repeatedly using his body to bump into the lion.

A member of the troupe could be seen tapping on the God of Wealth, appearing to signal for him to stop.

Photos also showed the God of Wealth lying on the ground, and at one point, sitting on top of the lion. According to a report by Shin Min Daily, online users criticised the behaviour as embarrassing and disrespectful.

Shin Min Daily attempted to contact the troupe but received no response at press time.

Singapore Wushu Dragon and Lion Dance Federation president Ang Mong Seng said he has not seen the video but said that inappropriate behaviour during performances could be a negative influence on children who are watching.
