PM monitoring evacuation of Malaysians from West Asia conflict zones

PETALING JAYA: The Prime Minister’s Office is closely monitoring the evolving conflict in West Asia while overseeing the evacuation of Malaysians from affected areas, following confirmation from the National Security Council (NSC).

Press secretary to the Prime Minister Tengku Nashrul Tengku Abaidah said Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was personally keeping a close watch on the evacuation operation involving Malaysians in the conflict zone.

“The Prime Minister prays that the entire evacuation operation will be facilitated and proceed smoothly, and that all Malaysians affected can be safely brought home,” he said during a press briefing on Monday (March 9).

Tengku Nashrul said the Prime Minister had reiterated that the safety of Malaysians would remain the government’s top priority under any circumstances.

Earlier, the NSC said an evacuation operation for Malaysians stranded in West Asia conflict zones would be held, directed by the Prime Minister.

The NSC said all necessary measures are being mobilised immediately to safeguard the safety and welfare of Malaysians in the affected areas.

“The government is now in the final phase of preparations to carry out the evacuation operation of Malaysians from several countries.

"The NSC will coordinate this operation in close cooperation with the Foreign Ministry through the Malaysian Representative Offices in the respective countries," it said in a statement on Monday (March 9)

It added that regular updates on the progress of the operation will be made until the entire process of bringing Malaysians home is completed.
