Takiyuddin: Appointment of new opposition leader on Perikatan agenda

KUALA LUMPUR: The appointment of a new Opposition leader will be among the topics discussed at the upcoming Perikatan Nasional supreme council meeting, says Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan.

The Perikatan deputy secretary-general said the March 14 meeting is to discuss several matters to determine the coalition’s future direction, including naming the next Opposition leader.

“Notices have been delivered to members of the Perikatan supreme council. The meeting will be held on Saturday, March 14 at 11am,” he told a press conference at the Parliament media room here on Tuesday (March 3).

Earlier, Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had urged the PAS leadership to name a new Opposition leader to replace recently terminated Bersatu deputy president Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.

He said the new candidate must be named soon to preserve Perikatan’s good name and dignity, and that Hamzah, who is no longer a Bersatu member, should not be allowed to continue holding the position.

Hamzah was among several leaders who were stripped of their party membership by Bersatu on Feb 13.
