Eleven dogs found dead in Seremban, poisoning suspected

SEREMBAN: Eleven stray dogs have been found dead here, believed to have been poisoned, says an animal welfare group.

Furrykids Safehaven said the dogs, some which had already been neutered, were found over a span of 48 hours in Taman Malaysia and nearby Jalan Leftenan Adnan.

"These 11 dogs were known to the community as they were fed, monitored and in several cases sterilised. Their deaths were not natural," said its president Kiran Bhatt.

She said several dead birds were also found in the area, which suggests poisoning.

She said poisoning dogs was inhumane and an act of cruelty towards animals.

Kiran said some animals exhibited symptoms consistent with poisoning, including frothing at the mouth, vomiting blood and violent convulsions.

She said the group lodged a complaint with the Veterinary Services Department.

"Sadly, we have since been informed that due to the absence of direct witnesses and the lack of CCTV footage in the affected areas, the case will be classified as no further action," she said, adding that absence of witnesses neither erases the suffering that occurred.

Kiran said Furrykids Safehaven remained committed to lawful and humane solutions such as trap-neuter-return, vaccination and community engagement.
