Malaysia strongly condemns attack on Iran by US and Israel, says PM

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia strongly condemns the attacks by Israel and the United States on Iran, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

In tabling an emergency motion on the matter in the Dewan Rakyat here on Monday (March 2), Anwar said Malaysia strongly opposed the continued attacks against Iran, as these are contrary to universal principles.

"As an independent country, Malaysia can only call for an unconditional and immediate ceasefire and if there is a basis for dispute, (there must be a constructive) return to the negotiating table.

"The recent statement by United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres clearly binds member states to comply with international law, but Israel is one country that continues to violate international regulations.

"Today (it attacks) Iran, before that it was Lebanon; Iraq; Syria and the massacre of the Palestinians continues until now.

"Therefore we have no other choice but to firmly and clearly state that this action is against world defence regulations and must be strongly opposed," he said.

The emergency motion addresses Israel's attack on Iran with the backing of the United States.

On Sunday (March 1), Iranian state media announced that Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, was dead following wide-ranging strikes that began on Saturday (Feb 28).

The attacks have reportedly killed more than 200 people, according to the Red Crescent, and triggered retaliatory strikes against Israel and US military forces based in the Middle East.
