Cops pay a visit to Bloomberg

PETALING JAYA: Police officers are believed to have visited the local office of New York-based media organisation Bloomberg, reportedly to locate journalists behind recent reports.

According to sources, the police personnel went to Bloomberg’s office at the Petronas Twin Towers and asked for Tom Redmond and Niki Koswanage, who authored two articles published this month.

The reports detailed allegations of abuse of power and extortion within the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

It also made claims about a link between its chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki’s links and individuals described as part of a “corporate mafia”.

The police visit came even as Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail announced that an investigation has been launched into an alleged plot to topple the government, said to involve an “influential individual” and an “international media agency”.

“Investigations are ongoing and the public is advised not to speculate,” Khalid said in a statement, without identifying the individual or the media outlet.

As of press time, there was no official confirmation from police regarding the purpose of the visit to Bloomberg’s office.

The Star has reached out to the police for confirmation.
