Na’imah: Coup plot claims laughable

Unexpected: Na’imah says she had read about the police report with ‘great surprise’.

PETALING JAYA: Claims that there is a plot to topple the government have been dismissed as “false, preposterous and even laughable” by Toh Puan Na’imah Abdul Khalid.

The widow of former finance minister Tun Daim Zainuddin, who has been linked to the claims in a police report, denied the matter and claimed instead that the allegations were made by a “disgruntled former employee”.

Two of her sons have also described the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) move to publicly release their names and details as “reckless and wholly unjustified”.

“The claim that I am trying to destabilise or topple the government is laughable,” Na’imah said in a statement yesterday.

She said she had read about the police report with “great surprise”.

“The individual who lodged the report approached me and offered his services in July 2025 as part of a proposed communications team.

“Due to his poor performance, he was terminated. After that, he attempted to make further monetary demands.

“Clearly, this is the conduct of a disgruntled man,” she claimed.

Beside lambasting the contents of the police report, she also took aim at the timing of the report.

Na’imah said it came seven months after the alleged meeting with the individual, and came on the heels of allegations against the government.

She claimed it was a “desperate attempt” to distract from growing calls to remove MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki, whom she did not name.

She also denied that she was behind the investigative report by Bloomberg, involving Azam.

Na’imah added that she would also look at legal action over the allegations.

Meanwhile, lawyers representing Amir Zainuddin Daim and his brother Amin Zainuddin Daim said the MACC had published their names, photographs and addresses despite knowing that they were represented by counsel and were in communication with the agency.

“There was no refusal to cooperate and neither was there evasion,” said Rajesh Nagarajan and Sachpreetraj Singh in a statement.

The lawyers said notices were served only on Feb 25 for their clients to attend an interview on March 11.

“Despite this clear notice, the MACC has seen it fit to jump the gun and issue a press release a mere two days after serving notice.

“It is calculated to give the false impression that our clients are running away or absconding,” the lawyers said.

They said they are taking instructions on immediate legal action, including remedies arising from this.
