IPOH: The Perak Fisheries Department says it did not find any dolphin carcass in waters around Ban Pecah, Tanjung Piandang.
Its director Mohd Ghazali A. Manap said the carcass could have been swept to another location by currents or waves.
"We first learnt about it via a viral TikTok video on Aug 5, brought to our attention by the Kuala Kurau Fisheries Conservation and Protection Base.
"In response, four officers searched the coastline from Kuala Kurau to Tanjung Piandang but found no sign of the marine mammal's carcass," he told Bernama when contacted on Saturday (Aug 8).
An Instagram video on Aug 4 of a dolphin carcass caught the attention of social media users, many of whom expressed concern about the condition of marine life in the area.
Mohd Ghazali said the area would remain under observation, and appropriate action would be taken if any new findings emerge.
He urged the public, especially the local community, with information about the incident to notify the department as soon as possible, stressing that keeping a marine animal carcass is an offence. – Bernama
