AGE is no barrier for Md Isa Said who continues to produce and sell woodwork even at the age of 84, Harian Metro reported.
Md Isa, of Sik, Kedah, who picked up the trade more than 40 years ago, said it drives him to continue working despite eyesight and hearing problems due to age.
He previously worked as a gardener at several nearby schools before retiring at 54.
“However, I just couldn’t sit still. I have always liked producing woodwork including hoe and machete handles. This helps me earn extra income as well,” he said.
The father of four added that he previously sold his items at a nearby market but this incurred transportation costs.
“About two years ago, I decided to sell the goods from my house and thankfully, people still come to buy them,” said Md Isa, adding that his items also attracted the attention of international tourists.
> It was a rough start for Ramadan bazaar traders in Rembau, Negri Sembilan as strong winds toppled and blew away the tents they had set up, Kosmo! reported.
Nik Nur Azuddin Nik Suhaimi, 36, said there were no warning signs, with the winds just blowing in and wreaking havoc.
“It just came and swept everything away. My tent stilts are broken and the canvas is torn,” he said.
Another trader, Moktazar Abas, 70, said this was the first time he had experienced such a thing despite having operated there for the past 20 years.
“Just two months ago, I bought a new tent worth RM300. It is now ruined,” he said.
Moktazar said he and other affected traders have agreed to pool money and rent a bigger tent.
“Like it or not, we have to continue (at the Ramadan bazaar) as we have already bought our supplies,” he added.
