KUALA LUMPUR: Officers in commanding positions and key personnel dealing with finances must comply with asset declaration requirements, says Armed Forces chief Jen Datuk Malek Razak Sulaiman (pic).

Speaking at a press conference at the Sungai Besi Camp after his first official address to the troops, Jen Malek Razak noted that these regulations are not new and have been in practice previously.

“This is for all levels of command and key personnel dealing with finances. This isn’t something new but perhaps needs to be updated,” he said.

When asked about the frequency of such declarations, he stated that guidelines are currently being reviewed and updated.

Jen Malek Razak also announced that officers serving in high-risk areas, including those in acquisitions, will have their postings reviewed after 18 months.

“We do not want one to be at a place for too long that could potentially lead to the creation of 'little Napoleons' who prioritise personal gain. The limit is 18 months, but this is subject to an individual’s effectiveness at the job,” he said.

Addressing disciplinary and moral issues, the Armed Forces chief said the religious corps (Kagat) will now report directly to him to strengthen ethical conduct.

“It is more effective for the Kagat director to report to me where views and strategies can be given and received directly,” he added.
