Lembah Pantai Bersatu division disbands in support of Hamzah

PETALING JAYA: The Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) Lembah Pantai division has unanimously agreed to dissolve the division with immediate effect.

Its chief, Datuk Muhamad Muqharabbin Mokhtarrudin (pic), said the decision was reached at a meeting chaired by him and attended by the division’s leadership.

“During the meeting, I gave full space for all parties to express their views.

“The majority of the division’s leaders had attended the ‘Reset’ programme organised by Bersatu vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee, as a show of solidarity and a joint declaration with Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.

"The programme demonstrated extraordinary support from party leaders and grassroots members nationwide.

“I made this decision after thorough consideration, guided by reason and a sense of responsibility to the struggle,” he said in a statement on Saturday (Feb 14).

Hamzah, who is Bersatu deputy President and the opposition leader, was expelled from the party on Friday (Feb 13).

Following that, Hamzah announced that a briefing on political direction and a “reset” programme would be held on Saturday, involving several MPs, division chiefs, and state assemblymen from the party.

A total of 19 Bersatu MPs were reported to have attended the briefing, comprising both those who remain party members and those who have been expelled.

Muhamad Muqharabbin said the decision was not driven by personal interest but aimed to ensure the continuity of a principled struggle anchored in the strength of the people.

He added that the overwhelming turnout at the briefing proved that leadership cannot be built through coercion, but through service and sincerity in engaging party members.

“This attendance is not merely about numbers, but a manifestation of confidence, loyalty and a shared commitment to move forward in a united, organised and people-centric struggle.

“Despite pressure and threats of disciplinary action, leaders and members still turned up to show their support.

“This proves that Hamzah is not just an organisational leader, but a figure deeply rooted in the party’s struggle, respected and loved across all levels of membership,” he said.

He stressed that the move was the best course of action to continue a broader political struggle to build people-based strength and to defend the nation's dignity and future.

“There is no need to be a "penjilat" if the party is hated by the people. Let us be corrected, but loved by party members and the rakyat,” he said.
