UM launches probe following allegations involving senior lecturer

PETALING JAYA: Universiti Malaya (UM) has launched an internal investigation following allegations circulating on social media involving one of its senior lecturers.

In a statement Thursday (Feb 12), the university said it had taken note of claims alleging that the academic is a follower of the Freemason movement.

“UM has initiated an internal investigation to obtain a comprehensive understanding of the matter and to review it fairly, transparently and in accordance with the relevant laws and university regulations currently in force,” it said.

The university also urged the public to allow space for the investigation process to proceed and to refrain from speculation or sharing unverified information, in order to safeguard the integrity of the probe and the privacy of all parties involved.

“UM is also committed to handling the matter professionally, ethically and responsibly, in line with principles of good governance,” it said.
